There will be a Christmas Truce event at the National World War I Museum in Kansas City on December 10-11, 2011. The MGWHLA has been invited to participate in a reenactment of the Christmas Truce on the museum grounds. If you have an early war German or British impression and would like to participate, contact us, or download the info sheet.

Get ready for the next field event hosted by the MGWLHA at Squadron Field in Parsons, KS! This event, scheduled for October 21-23 2011, will incorporate entrenched and semi-mobile actions, and we'll continue work on the trench! See the event page for details.See our events page for details.

Mark your calendar!

• Our fall event occurs October 21-23 this year. This will be held at beautiful Squadron Field in Parsons, KS. Action will begin late Friday and continue throughout Saturday, and into Sunday if everyone has enough rounds. This will be an on-going action, with ample opportunity to experience trench warfare, no-man's land, recon, open ground maneuvers, work detail, and much more. Be prepared for anything!
  
  
• The Heartland Doughboys in Iowa are hosting a total immersion event Oct 14-16. These events are really good experiences, and I hope we can have a good turn-out. October will be busy. Yes, the events are back to back, but I hope to work out schedule conflicts in the future.
  
  
• Our spring event will be March 9-11 2012 at Squadron Field. If it works for the majority of the membership, we will continue to set this date as the second weekend in March.
  
  
• The Heartland Doughboys will be hosting their immersion event March 23-25 in Iowa. I hope everyone can attend both events.

 

There is ample interest in having at least one more event at Squadron Field a year, for a total of 3. Summer heat like we are experiencing right now would be potentially deadly(it is 103 in Parsons as I write this). Would there be interest in an event in May? Maybe September? Or winter? Discussions at the upcoming events are encouraged!

Midwest Great War Living History Association and Top Squadron are sponsoring the construction of World War One trenches! Digging will commence June 4th, 2011 at Squadron Field near Parsons, Kansas.

Gear up in your favorite WWI impression and join the MGWLHA at the National World War I Museum's annual Memorial Day celebration on May 28th, 29th and 30th, 2011. The museum would like us to interact with the visitors inside and around the museum - this is not a tables event. The museum will open at 10am each day. Contact us for more details if you would like to participate.

The MGWHLA mourns the passing of Frank Buckles, the last US WWI veteran. As the last veterans of that era pass let's remember the cataclysmic war they survived, and all who did not.

Many of us had the opportunity to meet Mr. Buckles when he visited the WWI museum a few years back. Our condolences go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.

The MGWLHA had a very successful Living History day at the World War One Museum in Kansas City, Missouri today. The museum was very busy after the Veteran's Day ceremony, and MGWLHA members in period impression were able to interact with the public throughout the museum.

The MGWLHA field event was a great success! We had attendees from all over the midwest with a wide range of impressions - early war to late war, German, British, Russian, Italian. Thank you to everyone who supported this event and especially to John for organizing these and Kenneth for hosting.

A group member has graciously donated over 100 WWI-era photos for a gallery on this site. We have portraits, field shots and postcards from Germans, US, Brits, French, ANZACs and more from all periods of the war. We are indexing and describing them, and hope to have the gallery up soon.
